Sky vs Setanta

SKY SPORTS AND SETANTA SPORTS step up the battle for viewers for their live Barclays Premier League matches today by announcing their selection of fixtures. Sky, which has lost its monopoly of live rights for the first time since the league’s formation in 1992 after European Commission intervention, will broadcast 92 games, two thirds of the 138 that will be shown live, with Setanta screening the remaining 46.

Questionaire results.

When i handed out my questionaire i knew i would get short and to the point answers that is a reason for my focus group, the reaction i got from my questionaire was predicable all the people had backed up sky on being the best and setanta for being a company which is using us to gain money.

Feed back from my focus group.

I did my focus group to 4 people who i thought had different views on the up coming of sentanta, these 4 people gave me mixed feed back one saying that they like what setanta have done and they feel that sentanta has done its job to make money and to show sports, they have not used us to get one over on sky they have just had the better offer and people have warmed to them. Another one said that they feel sentanta are just a waist of money because of the lack of channels and the lack of a good quality signal when before that when they was with sky they had no problems.

So I feel that my focus group was a success because it gave me a wider view of what people think.

Sky Sports

Sky Sports is the brand name for a group of sports-oriented television channels. Sky Sports is the dominant subscription television sports brand in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It has played a major role in the increased commercialisation of British sport since 1990, sometimes playing a large role in inducing organisational changes in the sports it broadcasts, most notably when it encouraged the Premier League to break away from the Football League in 1992.

Setanta Sports

Setanta Sports is a sports broadcaster based in Ireland, operating 12 channels in 24 countries. Setanta Sports was formed in 1990 to facilitate the broadcasting of Irish sporting events to Irish expatriates. More recently the network has expanded and it now broadcasts various live sporting events aimed at international English-speaking audiences.

My question

Has 'setanta sports' recent monopolisation of British football led to the expolitation of digital TV subscribers?
